Higher Ground Horticulture has been designing, installing and caring for gardens in New York City since 1996. We have felt honored to create outdoor spaces with a sense of impact rooted in nature. As a Design/Build firm specializing in urban spaces we are skilled in the process of building shaded intimate spaces and sunlit rooftop gardens. From initial concept thru setting up a maintenance schedule our goal is to listen. We have had the opportunity to work with some the most talented Landscape Architects, Architects and Designers and along the way gained many different perspectives.

Each client is a relationship. We have been fortunate to maintain gardens that we have installed over a decade ago, giving us insight into creating outdoor spaces that endure.

We are truly lucky if we know what we want to do at an early age. As a young boy I would go around the neighborhood doing yard work, mowing lawns and planting flowers and came up with the name for my company when I was eighteen years old.

After a number of years in the entertainment business, I started in the landscape industry designing commercial interior plantscapes. I then spent a number of years with high-end tropicals and terrace landscapes before working for the Central Park Conservancy assisting in the care of Strawberry Fields. My boss would call it ‘urban guerrilla' horticulture, and that taught me a lot about how landscapes endure. I then decided it was time to make that boyhood dream come true and started Higher Ground Horticulture. The rest c'est de l'histoire.
